Bell Labs field trip connects invention history to engineering practice

Students toured Nokia Bell Labs in Murray Hill and linked decades of research breakthroughs to the documentation and evidence skills STEM Racing judges reward.

On August 7, 2026, Ridge Racers NJ visited Nokia Bell Labs in Murray Hill — one of the world’s most influential research campuses, where scientists helped invent the transistor, information theory, and foundations of modern communications.

Students linked Bell Labs habits — precise specs, evidence, clear explanation — to STEM Racing judging. A fast car is only half the story; documentation and measurable design tradeoffs are what separate national finalists from national champions.

The field trip is part of Apex STEM Education Inc.’s approach: competitive teams plus real-world learning that connects local students to New Jersey’s STEM history and employers.

Corporate partners including Mr. Tech have supported student equipment needs; Apex STEM Education Inc. stewards those gifts under board oversight and public reporting.
